Enthusiasts of Showtime’s Penny Dreadful will soon have more stories to devour. In addition to the upcoming third season of the acclaimed show, a prequel comic series is set to release in spring of 2016. The stories will be issued by Titan Comics, publisher of the Doctor Who and Penguins of Madagascar comic books.
The first series is to be written by Penny Dreadful staff writers Chris King, Krysty Wilson-Cairns, and Andrew Hinderaker. Artwork duties will be handled by Louie De Martinis, the man behind Madness and Heavy Metal.
Lizzie Kaye, Titan Comics editor shared, “This incredibly exciting new comic series is going to captivate fans of horror, literature and Penny Dreadful alike, giving them a whole new insight into the lives of the fascinating, even bewitching, characters.”
A lot of captivating horror-based television has come from literature including AMC’s The Walking Dead and, to some extent, Showtime’s own Dexter. Titan’s approach with Penny Dreadful will be a most welcome reversal. To have the prequel story and a continuation of the televised series will be a real treat. Just how intense will Victor’s descent into madness get?
Better yet, how bonkers was he before? Until 2016…
